Government shutdown could impact IRS and cause delays
The IRS is just one of many Government agencies that will be forced to ban employees from working if the budget plan is not passed on Friday. ZipTax wants you to know why this might affect taxpayers.
The IRS has stated that the official tax season opens on January 29th, 2018 and the IRS has just released the new tax withholding tables for 2018 to employers. The good news is taxpayers should start seeing an increase in the money they bring home in their paychecks soon. The down side is that other tax forms are impacted by the new tax tables and these forms are in the process of being updated. IRS employees tasked with updating programs and forms impacted by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Acts Bill may not have time to complete their projects before the government shutdown. If forms and instructions are not finalized by the 29th then e-filing will be delayed and tax refunds will also be delayed.
